Ayurvedic Remedies for Anxiety

Poses like Bhujangasana (cobra pose) and Shavasana (corpse pose) can help to calm an anxious mind, and meditation will also stop run-away thoughts and the endless mental laundry list that causes us to feel restless and anxious. According to Dr. Vasanth Lad, there are also several ayurvedic therapies for minimizing anxiety.

From utilizing a calming pressure point in the hand (where the middle finger ends, or the heart of the palm) to reduce frantic pranic energy to  drinking specially prepared flowering teas or taking a bath with baking soda and ginger, we can soothe frazzled nerves and calm an anxious heart.

Try these recipes for calming anxiety:


Anxiety Calming Ayurvedic Tea

Tagar or valerian 1 part

Musta 1 part

Steep 1/2 teaspoon of these herbs in 1 cup hot water for 5 to 10 minutes.

This tea pacifies vata and reduces anxiety. Drink it twice a day.


Almond, Saffron, and Honey With Warm Milk

Soak a handful of almonds overnight, in the morning peel their skins and crush them. Add the crushed almonds to a cup of warm milk (you can use soy, rice or almond milk if you prefer). Add a pinch of saffron and a teaspoon of organic honey, Mix well and drink. You can use this ayurvedic recipe for anxiety daily.
